Rhys Gillings (MSc BSc)
Strength and Conditioning Coach
Rhys is the co-founder of Functional Foundations & a strength and conditioning Coach. He has an extensive sporting background that includes being a part of the Quins’ academy, representing South East England U20’s and captaining the University of Chichester Men’s Rugby Team. His passion for strength and conditioning resulted from the difficulties he had in trying to reach elite level Rugby Union without gold standard S&C support. This passion has led Rhys to pursue an MSc in Strength and Conditioning (Distinction) which he has recently completed at the University of Chichester. Rhys is currently working within a professional Rugby club whilst also, operating in partnership with Sussex Performance Centre to oversee the strength and conditioning programme for Worthing College. This provides an excellent basis for helping athletes however, Rhys feels his knowledge could be further utilised to help more athletes surpass their performance goals. Prior to working with athletes, Rhys coached in a commercial gym setting whereby he helped general population clients improve their health and fitness. During this time, he assisted a GB skier in her return from injury and provided guidance to novice marathon runners. These skills have been invaluable in his coaching development and only further heighten his passion for helping others. Rhys believes that the development of Functional Foundations will provide many athletes with the opportunity for optimal athletic development. Given the co-founders similarities in sporting development, the company has been built upon values which place the first.
